Newscene covers candidate Warren’s visit to San Diego

A team of Newscene students was on hand to cover the visit of Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren at Waterfront Park in downtown San Diego on Thursday night.

With Jesus Lopez as the producer, the team shot video for the weekly Newscene broadcast, contributed to the live blog produced by the City Times and produced content for Instagram.

Join Newscene this spring – Enroll in RTVF 145

RTVF/DJRN recruitment flyerThere is plenty of new coming to Newscene this spring.

Professor Chris Acedo takes over as the lead professor RTVF 145, which is the class responsible for the production of the 30-minute weekly news broadcast show. Acedo comes with years of professional broadcast experience in San Diego, and he is a Newscene alumnus.

He will be joined by Nicole Vargas, who joined the City College faculty in the fall. The former multimedia journalist at the San Diego Union-Tribune will assist Acedo and the students with reporting, editing and producing content for the show, as well as the new Newscene website.

RTVF 1345 is held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Students meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:45-1:50 p.m., with Friday’s class, which includes the production of the weekly show, starting at 9:35 a.m. and wrapping at 3:50 a.m.

 

Newscene, Dec. 14: Cohen talks, locals worry about shutdown and Castaneda retires

Another semester of Newscene wraps with the final broadcasts of the fall 2018 term.

Shaunda Walker covers the public statements by Michael Cohen after his sentencing and Stephanie Alonso talks to locals about their concern over a possible government shutdown. The fall edition of Anchor Wars goes to the team on air for the day’s second show.

Marissa Gonzales, Edgar Yudkevich, Jeff Villegas and Alexandra Rangel anchor. Justin Barber and Matthew Schaerer cover entertainment, Celia Jimenez and Juan Gomez update sports, and Kenyatta Rigmaiden adds the weather.
